|There are many instances when leaders and employees encounter a difficult situation and make it more complicated because they don't practice effective communication skills. This doesn't happen because they're trying to make things more difficult, it's usually because they don't have any other method of dealing with things.
We're not really taught how to talk with co-workers or clients when things get heated so our workplace interactions are usually either pleasant or unpleasant. Here are a couple scenarios that occur in our workplaces to illustrate the difference between effective and non-effective communication and bring balance back into the equation.
The Client Complaint
I recently unpacked my brand new iPhone 4 and was suitably impressed - and truth be told, suitably amazed - at the features and functionalities of this little wonder packet. Let's face it, it's just downright sexy, and I love to play with it. Yes, says a lot about me, I know!
I'm sure though, that this bonding ritual is played out all over the world millions of times previous to my experience, and no doubt, millions more after mine. This is akin to a 'crush' or infatuation with an object that doesn't judge, talk back, or make demands other than that I have sufficient funds to feed its bandwidth and call charge habits. Simple really! A perfect relationship, perfect for Geeks and Stylistas the world over.
I was still blushing with this raw flush of infatuation when I came across some information about my new friend that is really disturbing. Actually, it is very dark. Apparently, embeded inside the bits and bytes on my new iPal, there is a file. That file is all about me. Specifically, it keeps a Geo-tagged log of everywhere I go, and records it faithfully in a database file hidden deep inside its sexy exterior, ready for anyone with the know-how to discover.
